Secondary Steelwork

Secondary Steelwork

Delivering a high strength to weight ratio, and fully recyclable, cold rolled secondary steelwork is a versatile and highly efficient method of construction for portal frames and mezzanine floors with spanning capabilities of up to 10 metres.

Sections range from 140mm to 400mm deep, in gauges from 1.2mm - 4mm thick. All sections are manufactured to a minimum yield of S450 and a minimum coating of Z275.

We provide free of charge design and take-off services, using the very latest Euro code software.

Zed Purlin

Used in Roof and Wall applications

Used primarily in portal frame roofing applications, Zed sections offer excellent spanning capability with minimal deflection. For use with roof pitches between 1 - 35°

Zed Sections can also be used as side rails for vertical sheeting as an alternative to channels.

Typical roof purlin centres:

Fibre Cement - 1375mm (max)

Singe Skin / Composite - 1500 to 1800mm

Max span: 10m

Cee Channel cold rolled

Used in Wall and Mezzanine applications

Cee's are exceptionally versatile and are used primarily as side rails for cladding vertical elevations. The profile lends itslef to forming door and window apertures with the use of trimmer cleats and countersunk holes.

Mezzanine floors utilise Cee's typically at 400 - 600mm centres due to their exceptional strength/weight ratio and span capabilities.

Eaves Beam cold rolled

Used at Roof & Wall Intersection

Eaves Beams are positioned to create a dual-purpose fixing location where the roof and wall cladding systems intersect at eaves level. Typically, the Eaves beam will also carry the weight of the rainwater system and is designed to cater for the additional load.

Two profiles are used:

Sigma Profile - allows the use of standard hex head bolts to be used whilst providing a smaller fixing face above/below the recess.

Flat Countersunk - The Eaves beam holes are punched and countersunk which provides a wider fixing face but also requires countersunk bolts and packer plates to be used.

Correct cladding detailing is critial at this junction to ensure your project is both watertight and air leakage is kept to a minimum.

Purlin ties Eaves brace assembly Side rail support

Used in Roof and Wall applications

A Range of accessories are used in purlin and side rail systems to reduce deflection and twisting of the cladding fixing face.

Roof accessories - Mid or 1/3 span:

Push-fit Anti Sag Bars offer speed of install by utilizing a spring clip each end, which locates and snaps into the corresponding purlin hole.

Eaves Brace Assemblies are used between the Eaves Beam and first purlin. They are heavier duty than Anti Sag Bars and use a bolted connection.

Wall Accessories - Mid or 1/3 span:

Side Rail Supports offer mid span support to alieviate deflection and uniformly disperse wind loads once cladding has been installed.

Diagonal Tie Wires are used between the first and second rail to enable levelling. Utilising a turnbukle system, the installer tensions the wire until the bottom rail is straight.
